Your boxes and bags — setting your own sizes

← Help Center

Where it is. On Packing Day, under the heading, there is a folded-up panel called Boxes & bags — your own sizes. Click it open. It is on that screen on purpose: that is where a wrong box size shows up, so it is where you will come looking.

What to type. One line per box you buy, with its outside size — the measurement printed on the carton, length by width by height in inches.

Walls take. Beside it is how much thickness the cardboard eats on each side. About a tenth of an inch for a plain box, a whole inch for an insulated shipping box. This matters more than it sounds. A wall eats from both sides of every measurement, so a tenth of an inch per wall takes a fifth of an inch off the width, and an insulated box loses two full inches each way. That is the difference between four cartons of eggs fitting and three.

Check it against a tape measure. The Inside column works out what really fits and shows you the number. Before you trust the box sizes, measure the inside of one real box and see whether it agrees. If it does not, the wall figure is the thing to adjust.

Used for. Mark each box as Pickup & delivery or Shipping (insulated), so a plain carton is never chosen for a box going on a truck for two days.

Retiring a box. Untick In use and it stops being chosen straight away, but it is not deleted — the sizes are still there for when the next pallet arrives. This is what to do when you run out of mediums, rather than deleting the row and typing it again later.

A bag holds at most. At the bottom is the weight where a frozen or refrigerated bag splits in two. Set it to whatever your bags will actually carry without handles tearing. When an order goes past it, the stickers print 1 of 2 and 2 of 2 so nothing gets left on the bench.

You can change these any time. Nothing else on your store depends on them — no prices move, no orders change. The next order you open is simply packed with the boxes you actually have.
