Keep a pickup spot’s street address private

← Help Center

Why this exists. A lot of pickup stops are a host family’s driveway, garage or porch. Putting that street address on a public website puts a family’s home on the internet, and they did not sign up for that.

Where to set it. Open the pickup location (Pickup Locations in your menu), and in the Location Settings box you will find Address visibility with two choices:

  • Show the full address publicly — the address appears on your site as it always has. This is the setting a location has if nobody has chosen, so nothing changed for your existing stops.
  • Show only after an order is placed — the street address stays off your website. It goes out in the order email, and it shows on the member’s own order page once they have ordered.

Write a landmark. Beside it is Public landmark — a short, friendly description of roughly where the stop is, shown instead of the address while it is hidden. Something like “the white barn just past the covered bridge on Route 30”. Leave it empty and members are simply told the address comes with their order confirmation, which is true but tells them less.

What members see. On the map, the pin, the location page and at checkout they get the landmark. On the checkout they get the landmark even for a public stop — the checkout says two lines below that a pickup spot is often a neighbour’s home, and printing the street there would contradict its own promise. Once they have ordered, the full address is in their email and on their order page.

One thing to watch. The pickup instructions box is public. It is also the natural place to type “pull all the way up the drive at 412 Mill Road”. Nothing stops you, and sometimes you mean it — but if a stop is set to hide its address and the instructions give it away, your Pickup Locations list will say so at the top, once, where you can see it.
